Pop Crochet: Twilight Edward Cullen Doll

The long-awaited Twilight movie won’t be opening till sometime in December (December 12, 2008 to be exact), but already the hype is building up, and for good reason. Stephanie Meyer’s bestselling young adult series about a vampire who falls in love with a human girl, has pretty much exploded into the book scene, and all around the world, Bella and Edward fans (and Alice fans… and Emmett fans…. and Jasper fans… heck, there might even be a few dozen Jacob fans around here somewhere; Taylor’s a cutie, they’re bound to come out of hiding) are eagerly counting down the days and hours before Twilight hits the theaters – not to mention Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final book of the series, also coming out on August 2, 2008.

Where I live, not too many people know of the series as much as say, Harry Potter (though I expect that to change once the movie is released), but the ones that I do know who love the series, don’t just love it; they LOVE it. Times infinity plus one, and they will scream it aloud for the world to know; I have never been so scared of fangirls in my life. I’ve managed to read Twilight and New Moon, the first and second books in the series, and enjoyed it immensely (I absolutely adore Alice for some odd reason), but the level of Edward Cullen love I see every time I look into those girls’ eyes frighten me. Not necessarily in a bad way, but they frighten me all the same.

Eventually, since at least one of them knows I crochet, I’ve been talked into making some Edward Cullen dolls for them to play with. Here’s what I’ve managed to create so far:

Feel free to click on any of the images for a larger view. I based this particular Edward Cullen doll on this picture I found of Robert Pattinson as Edward.

Some people were requesting for the promotional movie version of Edward, so I tried my hand in that as well:

And the photo I based this version on is here:

They’re about four inches high with beads for eyes and yarn for hair; a good size for a keychain, though I also offered to leave the keychain off if they preferred just the doll. Needless to say, a lot of them love it.

I added a couple up for sale over at my etsy shop, and have already sold a couple. I’m just a little happy that it turned out looking good; I was initially worried about how the hair was going to come out.

I’m seriously considering making a Bella Swan doll in turn, because I figured Edward ought to have some company. And then maybe an Alice Cullen doll. Or even a Jacob one. Although I might be getting a little in over my head on that score.

Edit: For those people who were asking about prices, etc., here’s the direct link to the Edward Cullen doll on sale, and direct link to the movie promo version. If you don’t have an etsy account, you can contact me via email instead.

    Hi,

This is the second time I think that I have posted on your work, once on LJ and now here. First I would like to say that I am very impressed Especially your Yoda doll from star wars, your Mr. Darcy from Jane Austen, and your Professor Snape from Harry Potter. Your Edward Cullen has been added to my favorite handmade dolls.

I know that this might sound out of bounds… but I will ask anyways, because it is best to get it out in the open. I was wondering if you could tell me how you made them and what Design you use to make them. I have an understanding that it is stuffed, but if you could send me instruction on how to make a ‘PLUSH CROCHET DOLL’ I would forever be thankful to you.

I do hope that you have a good day and I look forward to your next Masterpiece.
