Pop Crochet: The Dark Knight on July 18, 2008
Few people take renegades who run around with their underpants outside their leggings, seriously. Unless of course, said underpants-outside-of-leggings-wearing renegade also happens to be a caped crusader currently residing in Gotham City. With the perfect butler (you can’t go wrong with Michael Caine). And a pseudo-clown for an arched nemesis. Odd, but true. Because when you’re the Batman, you can do anything.
The Dark Knight is all set to open in theaters on July 18, 2008, and theaters have to make new showtimes from as early as 3 am simply to keep up with the demand, which is a huge indicator of how big the Batman franchise has gotten, and how all hell will break loose the instant it hits cinemas worldwide. (If you’re planning to watch it during opening weekend… or the weekend after that, get your tickets NOW.) And as an avid Frank Miller enthusiast, it warms the cockles of my little fangirl heart to know that the Dark Knight is taking on that darker, more macabre spin on the popular character as based on Miller’s work on the series bearing the same title, coupled with Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke graphic novel influence, especially when it comes to the late Heath Ledger’s amazingly psychotic performance as the Joker, a far cry from Jack Nicholson’s snide, devil-may-care version. They’ve gone a long way from campy Adam West Batman performances most non-comic fan enthusiasts were most privy to back in the 1960s.
And to celebrate, and to administer to my inner fangirl, I’ve even managed to whip up a few dolls for the occasion.
As always, the Batman and Joker dolls are all available at my shop!
I’m just happy that ticket here are not as sold out as they are in the United States, which means I get to watch on July 18! <3
